What are some laws and regulations that you are aware of to do with bike riding?

Besides that you have to wear a helmet in S. ca UNLESS you are riding on the side walk or on your own property
and
Are you required to get off of the bike to walk it across the street when there is a red light?
What can you be given a ticket for basically?

Here is a California bike law link for you.

Laws differ from jurisdiction to jurisdiction but as a general rule if you obey the same rules of the road as a motor vehicle you can’t go wrong. (i.e. – ride with traffic, not against it – stop at red lights – signal your turns – etc.) And ALWAYS wear a helmet – even if the law in your area may not require it.

In Illinois there is no helmet law for bikes or motorcycles. A bike is considered a vehicle and must follow all vehicle laws except where otherwise posted, like they cannot ride on freeways. Bikes must ride on the far right of the road and in single file if there is other traffic. The must turn left from the left lane. They must use turn signals either electric or hand signals.
In Chicago any one over the age of 12 cannot ride on the sidewalk. If there are bike lanes or designated bike street (there are a a lot of them) you must use the lanes/streets.
On bike paths not adjacent to streets bikes must yield to pedestrians and walk bikes in posted areas.
