You have free riding, downhill riding, and then you have cross country mountain biking. Cross country biking means there’s it’s just you and your bike going uphill, downhill, wherever your legs will take you. It is cross country at it’s best. It’s all up to you to get to the top of the mountain, and to get down it. This is mountain biking in it’s purest.

Cross country mountain bikers have different needs than other mountain bikers. Because they are more geared toward speed and efficiency, it is obvious why the bikes they use are different. A cross country mountain bike is geared more toward speed, because that is what cross country riders are generally after.

There are a few different styles of cross country mountain bikes to choose from. There’s full suspension which has shocks on both wheels, hardtail (shocks on just the front wheel), or a fully rigid frame (no shocks on either wheels). Full suspension bikes are often more expensive than the others. Many are choosing full suspension bikes because of shock absorb-ability.

Because cross country mountain bikers ride all over the place, including uphill and downhill, and often ride great distances, their bikes are usually lighter than free ride bikes. Their bikes are most often under 24 lbs. Free ride bikes can weigh nearly 40 lbs, which is a huge difference when comparing the two.

This recreational activity is also an Olympic sport. It offers an excellent, fun way to get exercise, and it can be as challenging, or as easy as you want, as there are trails of all sorts. There are also competitions that may take anywhere from 30 minutes to 24 hours to finish.

Many people regularly enjoy this activity. It isn’t as intense as downhill or free riding as the terrain ranges from easy to moderate. It is a great hobby to take up as it provides a fun way to get exercise and challenge yourself.

Mountain bike maintenance is important to anyone who enjoys riding on challenging trails. The best way to have an excellent ride is if nothing breaks down while you’re out there. Ensuring that your brakes, wheels, and everything else is in good shape will help to ensure that you’ll have a great ride.

The first thing to consider is cleanliness. Trails are notoriously dusty and sometimes muddy. The cleaning should be done right after you’re done with your ride. This is true even if all you have is a stream and a stick for scraping away hard-to-reach chunks of mud. Once you do get home, that is the time to take a cloth and really make sure you have removed all of the dirt and debris.

Something else everyone should know how to do is change a flat tire. For starters, pumping it with air will help you learn why it went flat in the first place. Once it’s full, you’ll be able to see if it became flat from disuse, if there is a leak from the valve stem, or if there’s an actual puncture.

If it’s just the valve stem, tighten it with a tool meant for that purpose. However, if there is a puncture, you’ll need to replace or repair the tube. Turn over the bike, loosen the nuts, and take off the tire. You’ll be able to slide it off the rim with a tire iron, but be sure that you carefully ease the valve out of its hole on the rim, too.

Once you have access to the tube, take it off, and submerge it in water to see if the hole is small enough for repair. Repair kits come with instructions, and they’re pretty easy to follow. When you put the tire back on, make sure the brake pads are properly aligned.

Repairing a flat and cleaning are two maintenance needs, but there are many more. It could be that the chain must be replaced at some point, or the wheels may be out of true. More needs include replacement of spokes that are broken, adjusting the brakes, and more.

Fortunately, everything you need to know about mountain bike maintenance can be found in manuals and on the Internet. As is true with all sports that require equipment, the activity is best enjoyed when the equipment is in good shape. Stay on top of it, and you just might be able to start climbing the highest mountains on two wheels.

Famous for being one of the most stunning areas of England, the Yorkshire Dales National Park is known around the world for it’s unspoilt landscapes. Appreciated for it’s delightful river valleys, farmland bordered by dry stone walls and windswept moorland, the Dales is a very special special tourist destination.

Making the perfect choice for either a short weekend break or even a much longer holiday, the Yorkshire Dales covers a vast area of over 600 square miles. Finding that perfect Yorkshire Dales hotel can seem very daunting indeed, however it’s worth bearing in mind that the area is very well equipped for tourists and visitors, making the search for accommodation fairly straightforward. Here are some ideas on great places to stay in the Dales which could help to make your search that little bit easier!

The Yorkshire Dales National Park stretches from Swaledale in the north through to Wharfedale in the south. The Dales are blessed with some great transport links so although the National Park is large, travelling about is easy, whether you are in your own car or on public transport.

If you’re just planning on visiting the Dales for a weekend or short stay, it would probably be best to find a Yorkshire Dales hotel that is close to one of the small towns or villages within easy reach of the National Park. The Yorkshire Dales region has many lovely market towns to choose from, each with it’s own unique character. Aysgarth and Hawes, for example, are at the very north of the National Park and are wonderful places for exploring the wild beauty of the Dales landscape.

Easily reached by public transport from Leeds and Bradford, you’ll find the gorgeous villages of Malham and Grassington. A real highlight of the southern Dales, this area also boasts the delightful Bolton Abbey estate, Yorkhsire home of the Devonshire family. With it’s unusual landscape of limestone pavements and rocky valleys, the southern Dales are well worth a visit.

When looking for your ideal Yorkshire Dales hotel, you are likely to want to base your decision on where to stay around what you’re hoping to get up to during your visit! The National Park is a treasure trove for lovers of the outdoors with some of the best walking country the UK has to offer.

If hill walking is your thing you’ll be spoilt for choice: the famous Yorkshire three peaks of Pen-y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough are all in the National Park and offer a not-to-be-missed opportunity for anyone looking for a strenuous challenge!

For a more relaxing stroll, the Bolton Abbey estate has some beautiful walking routes along the banks of the River Wharfe, whilst Reeth to the north of the National Park makes a great base for accessing stunning, wild moorland scenery. Each area of the National Park boasts at least one lovely Yorkhsire Dales hotel so finding your ideal accommodation should be simple.

Sally Carter has returned to the UK having spent many years working in the United States and is now running a successful yorkshire dales hotel. Having spent many happy holidays in the Dales, Sally loves living and working in this beautiful part of the world.

Staying fit is one of the most common concerns of today’s modern individuals. As such, people today not only carefully choose which food to eat; they also perform various training exercises. Among these exercises, one of the most popular is cycling. Nonetheless, despite the popularity of this activity as a training exercise, it is still practiced by many cyclists as a professional sporting activity. With the number of purposes of cycling, bicycles are also today available in a wide array of types to choose from, among the popular of which are cross bikes.

The cross bike also known as the “hybrid” is a type of bicycle which combines two types of bikes, the road and mountain bikes. It is a compromise between the features of both types. It is mostly made of light materials and is designed for cyclo-cross racing. They are light for lifting because riders must carry them while running during cyclo-cross events.

As mentioned, a cross bike features components of both a road and a mountain bike. Its three front chain rings and straight or sweep up handle bars are based from those found on mountain bikes while its tires resemble those found on road bikes. These combined features make up a cross bike which may also be described as a lighter road bike and heavier mountain bike.

One of the important parts of a cross bike is its frame. In order to cope with the stresses associated with cyclo-cross racing where the bike is carried over the shoulder to as much as 60 times, the bike’s frame should be stiff and responsive, slightly wider to accommodate the size of the tires, and most importantly, lightweight. To achieve these characteristics, cross bikes are manufactured from light materials such as aluminum, carbon fiber, steel, and titanium.

Choosing the best cross bike in the market is often considered a tedious task in today’s marketplace given the number of options to choose from. As such, various factors should be carefully checked before making a purchase decision. As mentioned, one of the most important parts of a cross bike, and hence, should be checked carefully, is its frame. It should be easy to carry over the shoulder, but at the same time, strong and stiff enough to traverse over wet and muddy terrain. On the other hand, the tires should have plenty of grip and mud clearance while the pedal should not hinder running. As such, it is recommended to shop for a pair of knobbly tires and double sided SPD type pedals. Lastly, the gear combinations and brakes need to be fool proof to prevent accidents during runs on varied terrains and steep inclines.

Cross bikes are indeed superb companions during cyclo-cross racing events. Nonetheless, these bikes are also excellent tools to use for training exercises. As such, investing on these gears can be considered indeed a worthy investment. Hence, it is important to carefully choose among the wide selection of brands and models now available in the market for consumers to choose from which one to invest on.

Michiko Yang is a cyclist based in Switzerland. Throughout her cycling career, Michiko have tried using different types of bikes and one of her favorites is the Crossbike.

Millions of men and women globally are transfixed each and every year as the annual Tour de France is run. In case you aren’t one of these people, and you do not genuinely get what the fuss is about, or maybe you just do not understand the guidelines and terminology, right here is really a fast primer in order that you’ll be able to join in on the fun this year!

The Tour de France started in 1903 when a French newspaper wanted to drum up some publicity and attract a bigger readership to their publication. The idea to have a multi-day, multi-stage cycling race came from young Go Lefvre, who was the cycling reporter for the newspaper. The concept was altered and molded into a affordable facsimile of what we see these days: a race that traversed through tiny towns in France, taking cyclists a few weeks of grueling rides to total. The initial race was a success, because it has certainly led to over one particular hundred years of tradition, and it also elevated the readership of the newspaper, so it fulfilled its original objective.

Considering that then, the Tour de France has evolved, but considerably of it has also stayed the same. Towns compete every year to become added as waypoints along the Tour de France route, and are selected by a committee to join the prestigious ranks of people who have hosted the race for each day. The race nevertheless attracts riders from all around the planet, even though the prestige (and funds) of the Tour de France brings a a lot wider variety of cyclists than inside the first years with the race. The race itself is also still a marvelous instance of selection, because the race is split up into mountain stages significant and little, hilly sections of road, and flat sections for rapid sprints.

A lot of fans who are new for the Tour de France do not understand why 1 rider is wearing a yellow jersey, and why sometimes a brand new rider is wearing it the next day (don’t be concerned, they wash it very first). Well, the yellow jersey is renowned as getting worn by the present general race leader. Consequently, wearing the yellow jersey just isn’t only an excellent honor, but an excellent responsibility. It essentially paints a target on your back, and reminds all the other cyclists what they’re racing for. If you are wearing the yellow jersey, you’d finest be ready to defend it! Other jerseys include the green jersey, the white jersey, and also the polka dot jersey. They may be awarded for the race’s point leader, finest young (below twenty 5 years old) rider, and best climber, respectively.

It was mentioned earlier that the race is split into stages. The stages are sections in the race that happen to be traversed in a single day, which combine to create the race as a whole. Riders do get a break at the end of each stage- they’re only human, right after all- only to continue the subsequent morning at the subsequent stage. The 2008 Tour de France features twenty 1 stages. The riders also are recipients of two rest days, that are spaced out all through the twenty three day occasion.

Cyclists typically compete as component of a team. This may seem strange, as cycling would seem to be an individual sport, but teams have been element with the Tour de France for a lengthy time. Teams can really support one another very a bit in a race, by pacing one another, blocking off the competitors, or “slip streaming” for maximum speed by riding directly behind one particular yet another. In the course of some years, the teams had been depending on the national origin of riders, but now the teams are organized by sponsors.

At the finish of the Tour de France, the riders’ finishing positions are determined by merely adding each rider’s time on each and every stage together to obtain a total race time. The cyclist using the lowest overall time is the winner from the Tour de France, and joins a terrific tradition of legendary athletes dating back over a single hundred years. Ensure to follow the Tour de France this year, as history is produced however once again on the roads of France!

Mongoose, a company that first started with just making BMX bike wheels is now the market leader in the BMX world. Today and they keep making new amazing designs and cutting edge improvements to the hobby as though it come naturally to them.

If ever there was the need to create an “example bike” to demonstrate how a real BMX bike should behave, the Mongoose Thrive would be it.

The Mongoose Thrive is something that needs to be experienced, there just is something different about it that no stat or measurement could explain on paper. This bike is certainly more then the sum of it’s parts. This bike follows through with vigour no matter what is thrown at it.

The Complete Bike

For a BMX bike manufacturer, finding innovative techniques and setting new limits is always a challenge! When Mongoose came up with the idea of putting a full-Chromoly fork into their BMX banger, it was an insanely genius idea! There’s no doubt that Chromoly is the best bet for strength and durability but isn’t it even better if you make the entire fork a single unit?

Mongoose has indeed given us and single piece fork, but they didn’t stop there. The Mongoose thrive also comes with massive handle bars and pedals by Odyssey for excellent comfort and performance. This also provides safer landings and higher jumps. Mongoose also has a “street” package with pegs and gyro breaks for fine grinding.

With the Mongoose Thrive they’ve gone out of their way in every detail to get just that little more in every aspect of the bike. Whether it be the Rush levers or the Tektro stock alloy breaks, the sum total of these details is one incredible ride.

Heavy Performance but Not Heavy on the Wallet

Considering what this bike can do, the $ 370 to $ 400 price tag is not too bad and is still about $50 to $ 80 cheaper than what an average 20-inch BMX bike will cost you. However, the big difference is for about $ 400 you will get not an average bike. You will get a top quality bike of high performance ability.

For this price, you can own a bike with world class parts that ensures comfort, safety, flexibility and durability. Considering all of the above, then you can decide for yourself whether you are getting a bargain or not.

Being a dedicated rider used to mean wearing form fitting outfits and taking long weekend journeys on the ten-speed. Biking today has a different character , however , because many urban residents are riding to their jobs as a cash conserving and viable alternative to the automobile. For this more recent group of regular riders, maintenance has become especially critical, and many are doing the necessary repairs at home. At what point should you purchase a mountain bike work stand?

Having repairs done at the bicycle shop is simple and convenient. It may be the reasonable choice for those who are mechanically challenged or lack the right tools. Others nonetheless , want to keep this expense to a minimum by doing it themselves. Repairs that appear relatively simple and straightforward in the store nevertheless , can become tough and awkward without good support. More information can be found by checking out the mountain bikes for sale website today.

When put next to a traditional ten-speed, a supposed mountain bicycle generally has fatter tires and a sturdier frame. Pro technicians need a robust and strong mend frame so as to work well, and so do home fans. Rock-solid equilibrium during repairs makes any job less complicated. Nothing is more maddening than trying to mend a bicycle that keeps falling over or moving away, usually skinning some knuckles in the process.

Good cycle upkeep frames come in several grades and price ranges, and the more costly models are often the most stable. Prices generally range from under $100 to $300 or even more. For many riding enthusiasts, the transportable models aren't only convenient, but are required for easy of storage and handling. A non-portable model has the advantage of added weight and stability.

A top quality upkeep frame should also have a professional-quality clamp which will safely fit any size of frame tubing. These models are bulkier than ten-speeds, and a good quick-release type of clamp is important. A properly secured machine makes even the most daunting repairs appear a little easier and a lot less stressed. Sturdy frame support loses the disappointment that's inevitable when making an attempt to make repairs with one hand, while the other holds the car steady.

Cleaning up after an excursion in the bad weather can become much easier. Those hard-to-reach places can be simply scrubbed clean if the cycle can be soundly held in position. While keeping the cycle looking pristine is not a serious concern for some people, employing a pressure hose while revolving it on a stand couldn't be simpler, and prevents wear over a long period of time.

For repairs at home, should you purchase a trail bicycle work stand? The savings and convenience alone are enough to suggest one. 1 or 2 months of doing your own straightforward maintenance will easily pay for the initial investment, and there is no more need to awkwardly wheel a poorly auto to the store. It implies you do repairs at your own leisure, knowing you're making a contribution to higher air quality by riding instead of driving.

Make sure to go to the mountain bikes for sale shop for free of charge information, reviews along with a excellent choice of products. Numerous very good posts on specialized mountain bikes for sale.

If you are looking for a bike that has the “one-size fits all” quality, then the Mongoose Nugget is the bike for you! However, unlike any other “one-size fits all” offers, the Mongoose offers both top performance that suits any rider’s needs.

The creators of Mongoose bikes has introduced a revolutionary machine that allows for a smooth and steady ride whether you are jumping around a paved road, navigating along winding dirt trails, racing down hills or simply for just a nice pleasure ride along the block.

The Road Warrior

The Nugget comes with a slope-style frame, the latest the Mongoose world has to offer. The FreeDrive suspension frame, a pioneering trademark product of the company, forms the bike’s core and gives it unbelievable flexibility and stability. Using an air-based suspension system, that can be adjusted to match the finest detail, the Mongoose Nugget is taking things to the next level of competition.

Newbies and professional bike riders alike will truly enjoy the adjustable features of the Mongoose Nugget. The simple yet high-quality front Rock Shox Poke and rear Rock Shox Monarch suspensions are adjustable. With just the simple twist of a dial, you can finely tune the absorption and feedback ratio to suit your needs.

This bike may be the least expensive of the bikes in the Gravity genre, but don’t let the price deceive you! The top-of-the-line parts that come with this bike, such as the strong rims and wide tires confer both durability and stability for those hard landings. Both suspensions are able to drop over 100mm that allows you to get over the hardest bumps and tough slopes.

From down-hill racing to long cross-country journeys and even jumping competitions, this is one machine that is built to handle every single thing. A bike created solely for competitive riding, the Nugget guarantees that you won’t fret one bit as it works tirelessly to keep you ahead of the chasing pack.

Money or Life

Any rider who already own a Nugget can attest that this bike can do almost anything that any bike in this category can do. This is the best riding machine out there. It is flexible, yet it can be adjusted to specialize to guarantee high performance in any specific riding style.

So, would $2,500 sound like too much for a bike that does all that and more? The thing is, when you are hurtling down mountains or uneven trails at such mind-numbing speeds, you can never discount the importance of having the best possible tool at your disposal. Despite being a starting-level bike in its genre, it has everything you could possible want, and more.

Whether you buy it off the Internet or head down to a store, you can always grab special deals that stores might have. Amazon carries one and even Wal-Mart might just bring one in at Christmas or something. Otherwise, try Jenson USA, who will give you a 30-day return policy on the Nugget.

You have to wonder if anyone, who knows bikes, has every thought about using that money-back offer. If you are looking for the most incredible bike that will stay by your side for years, then you’ve got yourself a real winner here.

Every successful company has a flagship product that always hits the mark with its faithful customers. Even in the bike world, where a single customer rarely buys more than one bike in a long time, the Mongoose Logo has really changed the way people look at this company and its products. When thousands of BMX bikes are flooding stores across the world, there has to be some special reason for this bike to gather the support that it has.

A quick look at the bikes features matched with its unbelievable affordable price will certainly motivate any beginner rider to rush to the store and get themselves this awesome bike. If you don’t believe us, let us take a look at what this bike has to offer.

The Perfect Riding Companion

What makes the Mongoose different from its competition? Simply put – it is a “no nonsense” bike that any rider can ever ask for. With the Mongoose Logo, you get high-end professional level performance at affordable pricing. It allows for ease and comfort for beginner riders while ensuring rider safety.

The Mongoose was created to guarantee top-level performance while considering a beginner’s capability. How? The first things that stand out are the world class cassette hubs that keep your chain short, light and safe from damage. The tires are bigger for a bike this size – these wonders from Innova are wider and give a stronger grip without losing out on any of the feedback that a rider needs.

The Odyssey grips are attached to a fine Hi-Ten handlebar. This gives a light feel while ensuring durability in every respect. The bike’s core, which is mainly composed of the frame and the fork, add more stability to this top-performance bike. With these top quality features, it is quite unbelievable that this bike can be purchased at such an inexpensive price.

However, there are a few areas where the Mongoose Logo may disappoint a beginner rider – and these are the plastic pedals. They may not provide the grip you need but they can be easily replaced. Other than that, this bike is perfect, or close to it. For the affordable price and for the great features, it is hard t find a better bike.

The Biggest Surprise

At the end of each bike-shopping trip, after all the testing and amazement has ceased, comes the time of real-world things – payment. When you see the list of features that the Mongoose Logo gives, you prepare yourself to either move onto another bike or just empty out your life savings.

So just how much will it cost you to own a Mongoose? Well, for only $200 you can own a professional quality high performance bike. Isn’t that a great deal? This is why the Mongoose Logo comes off the shelf much faster than the competitor brands.

If the features aren’t enough to help you make your mind up, then the price tag certainly will. There is no way you can ignore this mechanical masterpiece because the company has created a brilliant combination of high-end features and given it out on an extremely low-end price. These bikes are simply too good to resist and if you can beat everyone else to the front of the line, there is still a chance that you might get your hands on one!

There are plenty of reasons to fall in love with the Mongoose Logo. From the features to the quality of the parts and all the way down to its price, everything about this bike is absolutely amazing. To create a combination of parts & features, like it has, and to give it away as cheaply as it is, is like the holiday season running all year ’round.

Cycling is a great way to stay in shape, plus it gets you out in the open, and can afford a great way of getting from A to B. But choosing to commit to cycling is only the beginning. After that you need to choose a bike, and whatever your choice is it will determine the road you go down – do to speak – as a cyclist. The two main categories out there are mountain bikes – also known as MTBs – and Road Bikes. Here are some of the arguments for choosing each respective class.

MTBs or Mountain bikes have been with us for around thirty years now. They were pushed forward in the eighties as a new way of taking bikes into challenging terrain. Their thick wheels and suspension allow them to get out onto rocky paths and areas that other bikes wouldn’t be able to climb. If you’re looking for a sturdy ride you won’t be disappointed as MTBs are easy to pick up and use, and very durable, even in the dangerous environment of the city. As such they’re often the everyday bike of choice.

Road bikes take advantage of ultra light frames and narrow wheels to get serious speed going on the road. If you’re looking to rack up miles then these are the bike of choice. They can travel much faster than mountain bikes over flat, smooth terrain, and keep you feeling fresh thanks to their streamlined nature. Modern road bikes lock you in to the pedals with foot clamps, and benefit even more from a streamlined outfit, so there’s a definite look to go along with them.

If you’re split between to two there are options. A cyclo-cross bike will offer you the lightweight advantages of a road bike, while still allowing you the suspension and tyres to hit the rough trails if you want to. These are actually one of the best choices for the work commute, as they won’t break easily and have a high speed, but also keep you stable in the same way as a mountain bike.

There’s no wrong choice as far as bike type is concerned – whatever enthusiasts might tell you. You’ve just go to pick something to suit your needs.

Get a great deals montane atomic jacket online this year.
