I’ve just obtained Jack Wolfskin Blizzard Jacket . If i am honest the styling is often a tad dated matched against an Arcteryx of a similar price but as a functional jacket it really works wonderfully well. The weather happens to be foul enough to grant a great testing and it has not let me down. While out walking last weekend within a foul, squally gale the technical touches arrived to their own personal.
The stashed hood was nicely adjustable and simply repackaged. The wind-proofness appeared to be brilliant. I only had a baselayer directly below and i was nice and toasty. No drafts to generally be felt. Although windy a single day was quite moderate so another wonderful touch , the ventilation zips came in handy.
One slight criticism was the fit around the neck. Im used to a tight wrap around neck on my old Berghaus. The neck on the Jack Wolfskin is comfortable but needs self tightening via a drawstring at the back of the neck. I can see this being an issue with gloves on.
Thats a small gripe really as the Blizzard is a fantastic bit of kit. I would certainly give 9.5 out of 10. The neck fit just letting the side down. Getting into Mountain Biking at an older age than most I found that buying my first mountain bike was a very daunting task. Not knowing that much about mountain bikes for the first 30 years of my life made me feel a little bit wary about visiting a bike shop in case my lack of knowledge became embarrassing, not to mention this combined with a lack of thousands of pounds in the bank might lead me to buying a mountain bike that would make me a humiliation when off road riding with mates.
The first thing I learnt is that if you scout around, there are several older models of the apparently “better” mountain bikes floating about on cycle shop websites at hugely discounted prices and what is even better is that some bike shops sell 2nd hand or ex-demo old model mountain bikes for even less. This way I could make sure that when I take out my mountain bike in front of friends then they will assume that I have been riding mountain bikes for a while (well as long as the from the year the model came out) plus I would have a high quality mountain bike (even if a little old) that also looked like I’d looked after it.
The thing that worried me about buying a mountain bike from off of the internet was that the size of the bike would be totally wrong for me, and that surely buying a mountain bike from an actual store would be better to find out if it fits properly. This turned out to be another unnecessary worry, as most websites (well the better one’s anyway) have half decent mountain bike sizing charts, so all I had to do was dig the tape measure out and measure away, and there you have it, I knew exactly what size mountain bike I needed.
Choosing the mtb was also a difficult one, when i have no idea of which models are meant to do great, or cool, or anything. So again, thanks to the power of the internet, I searched for mtb forums, discussion boards, blogs, online mountain bike magazines. This also reduced the problem learn the many necessary mountain bike lingo, so that I now seem like a total pro when out riding.
Now all of my friends are envious. I own a super awesome mountain bike and also managed to pick up some cheap, cool looking mountain bike clothing to go with it and now that I know all of the mountain bike lingo too, I can talk about mountain bikes with the rest of the mountain biking nerds, and appear like I know more than they do. Brilliant.

Having not owned a bike for Many years I made the decision arrived to participate which includes mates in the village and find out from the gym and into the outside, all of them persuaded me that cycling was the simplest way to get fit, move out inside the countryside and as a vintage dodderer I had been also told it turned out low impact.

My nearest shop was only 14 miles away so I took myself off to Rutland Water Cycling. The first thing I did was to walk in to the ground floor and saw 5 bikes near the entrance and a few more dotted around the clothing and accessory displays (I was thinking this is another case of big adverts and sod all stock), eventually I did an un-manlike thing and asked an assistant (the spitting image of Dale Winton) who (in a camp way) suggested that I followed him upstairs! I was going to say that I was blown away but given my previous comments I feel that overwhelmed is a more appropriate comment.
The sheer scale and variety had me scurrying from one end of the display to a different as well as the salesman helping me was superb. No condescending attitude, just advice that enabled me to narrow my choice down instantly, having sat on several he even offered me the chance to spin them across the Rutland Water car park.When i decided it might be best easily purchased from the store as a whole lot effort had been placed into my sale it seemed rude to not have complied (the truth is I worked it out that the saving I might made can have been outweighed through the blunder that could have been because the bike I chose was a completely different style to the one I had created inside my head after i walked in).Rutland Cycling, you will be heroes.

Today, I left shopping until last because its the one that seemingly can’t be ignored plus the the one that irritated me the most. It’s not particularly original, I’m sure there are hundreds or 1000s of males who despise the sheer reference to “popping into town” but I have to be in the most notable 5% concerning my hatred towards it. However, I truly do love a superb Cycle Shop or Bike Shop.
It’s not only crowded and busy, although the tedium alone makes you want to grab a harpoon and shoot myself. I’d try this but I don’t possess a harpoon also it would mean visiting town to receive one.
