How much do you love the Tour de France?

I followed my first tour on television in 1993, and have watched as much as I can of every one since. This year, wonderfully and disastrously, SBS television (Australia) is broadcasting every stage live, so I’m not getting enough sleep!!

I love it to bits, love the varying tactics of team cycling, love sprint finishes and insane mountain climbs. I’m waiting until I have enough $ and time to take all 3 weeks off and follow it around.

What’s your Tour story?

Yes im a big fan and love the month of July!

You must be pleased to see Mcewan doing so well.

I remember the glory days of toe-clips and wooly jerseys, and great british cyclists like Roche, Millar (Robert, the climber), sean yates (demon sprinter). Ah good days!

This is the first year I started road riding and watching the Tour. I am enjoying it immensely. These are athletes performing at the highest level of fitness. The crowds and the exuberance is intoxicating as is the country of France. I am this morning a little heart broken for my countryman Floyd Landis. Looking forward to more great riding. It is great that you are still enjoying it as passionately after all the years you have followed it. Viva Le Tour!!

I started watching the Tour a few years ago and since then I have become obsessed! I think it’s one of the best displays of physical and mental fitness! I’m especially glad this year to see how competitive and unpredictable the Tour is shaping up to be. July is the best month of the year and I too would love to be able to to cheer along the riders from the sidelines!
Enjoy the rest of the Tour and I hope you can catch up on sleep in August!

As an American, I’m loving it a lot more today, than I was yesterday.

I too have been watching cycling since the Indurain Years. What a fantastic sport!

Favorite Tour Stage? I’d have to say watching Pantani crack Ullrich (and everyone else) in the 1998 Tour. The Armstrong Pantani battle on Ventoux was great as well.

Man I’ve played hookey from work every day for 3 straight weeks, every summer since OLN started carrying coverage.

Every mid-June I call the cable TV company and subscribe… end of July, I cancel.

But… can’t say I’m all that keen on going in person… sounds like a lot of sitting in the hot sun in crowds in the middle of nowhere. I tell ya, I’ve watched a lot of bike races in person and it gets pretty boring. TV is way better.

Now… we are planning a trip to Belgium in the late fall/winter to see Six-Day racing… that’s indoors on a velodrome, they serve copious amounts of beer and race into the wee hours of the night. More my kind of stuff.
